We volunteer with LBR for many reasons. Boxers are the greatest.
Cubby is Reg's fourth and Deanna's second boxer. Reg was introduced
to the breed by a ten year old female boxer named Sophie, rescued from
the streets of Chicago. After Sophie's passing at the ripe old age of
fifteen, Reg knew she wanted another boxer. Instead she got TWO -
puppies! Yes, that sweet old Sophie had sold her on the breed, but as
many other LBR volunteers know, a ten year old boxer is no preparation
for a boxer puppy, let alone two!
The two puppies, Barney and Betty,
were a delight. After eight fun-filled years with this pair, Barney
was diagnosed with a brain tumor and passed away. A year later, Betty
carried on Sophie's tradition when Reg met Deanna and Dakota (a sweet
lab). Nine year old Betty was Deanna's first boxer. Just like
Sophie, this sweet, gentle girl was a great ambassador for her breed.
Deanna fell in love with the boxer. After Betty passed away, Dakota
needed a friend, and we needed a boxer. We knew this was an excellent
time to adopt an adult.
Along came Cubby. Although he's no puppy, he
is an amazing bundle of energy, much to Deanna's surprise. And
Dakota's - Cubby outplays his chubby younger sister at every turn.
When we adopted Cubby from Legacy, everyone we dealt with was very
friendly and nice.
We love what Legacy does and how they do it, so we
knew that volunteering with them was a great way to help boxers.
(Also, Cubby made us).
