ANDREA - Mom to Casey and kitties Scribbles and Pigeon
I waited eagerly for a house with a backyard so I could finally get the dog I'd been wanting since moving out of my parents' house. I put in my application about a week after moving in. Legacy wasn't the only group I worked with, but they were the best about keeping in touch and getting the application processed. The hardest part was finding a dog that wouldn't eat my cats! I finally agreed to meet "Alton", a dog that didn't quite meet most of the criteria I'd set, but I figured I could use him as a "practice" meet & greet. Well, I opened my front door one cold December evening and saw him sitting on the porch with a jaunty blue scarf. He gave me a kiss with his great big tongue, and it was love at first lick! He became my Casey two days later, and he's the joy of my life. I wouldn't trade him for anything!
A few months later, I got an email from Legacy, trying to find foster homes for some of their boxers in need. I scrolled down the list . . . and down . . . and down! It seemed never-ending, and I was in tears at the thought of more dogs like Casey dying in shelters. I sent in a donation, accompanied by a tearful email saying that I couldn't foster but was there something else I could do? Let's just say they found a few things! (And I even started fostering for very special cases. ;)) I love working with all these wonderful dogs -- and people! It's so rewarding, and I wouldn't trade it for anything. Plus, it helps keep me from breaking down and adopting another boxer . . . so far!
