ANISSA AND RON - Mom & Dad to Diego and Savannah (and Cruz, too!) Why do I volunteer? I volunteer in animal rescue because of a little, old, black and tan dachshund named Rocky. I adopted him from a local rescue group in 2001. He was pitiful--skinny, flea and tick ridden. He had been given up by his owners because he was old and they didn't want to be bothered with him any longer. Rocky spent 5 glorious years with us and we lost him in 2006 due to congestive heart failure. He was loved the last 5 years of his life and he gave back by joining me in animal therapy. We visited local nursing homes and visited with the residents. He touched many hearts in his 5 years with us. He spurred me into action and I started volunteering with a few all breed rescues in the area. I started fostering small dogs and then I found Legacy. I have two boxers and while I am partial to dachshunds also, I believe the boxer is a wonderful breed. How can you not love a dog that is exuberant about life day after day and is a clown at heart? If you have a bad day or you are down, your boxer is the only pick me up you need!
Legacy has a dedicated group of volunteers and I am proud to be part of an organization that makes such a difference.
