Why I Volunteer?
About 3 years ago, I was driving along a small highway in East Texas. I was running late, avoiding traffic, and just trying to get home like so many others. The end of the long journey was near and the 60 mile countdown was consuming my thoughts. A blinking red light approaches and, with a small curse under my breath, I begin to slow to a stop. While waiting so patiently for my turn, I start to stare at boxes thrown beside me on the side of the road and I realize that they are moving! I see a small brown thing rummaging through the boxes. I pull over, and there she was, my Shiner. I found a small 2-4 month old Boxer that had been abandoned on the side of the road days before because she was sick and limping. It was love at first sight. No amount of money or inhumanity would come between us ever again. For the first time in way too long, something bigger than me was becoming clear. Shiner helped me to see the light (fawn, really). I was here to help the cause any way I could.
My Shiner is now about three and a half years old and is as spunky and happy as they come. She is in perfect health and can run like the wind! Her personality, playful spirit, and endless love provide laughter and heartfelt warmth throughout our lives. She is why I am here today.
Along the way I have fostered and found homes for several other babies. Recently, I wanted to rescue/adopt another boxer baby, one that could call us his forever mommy and daddy and Shiner is sister. That is how we found Legacy Boxer Rescue and our Zeus. Zeus was love at first sight for both Toby, my counterpart, and I, even if Shiner did not think we would be lucky enough to keep Zeus forever (I knew better). Shiner and Zeus are now two peas in a pod and they know they are in it together forever. We could not be more blessed with our family.
My Mission:
Even if only one more person can experience half of what our babies have given us, then I will work day and night for that chance to share heaven.
Why Legacy?
I was looking for the right family to help in the daily battle of saving lives. After all, one had saved my life.
