Other Info : Apache is a wonderful boxer with a gorgeous smooshy face & so very loving. He’s become very spoiled in his time with us. Very well behaved when new company comes over, won’t jump up & lick them to death. He’ll great them & then go find a toy or go take a nap. He’s calm & playful all at the same time, housetrained & crate trained for short periods of time. ‘Sit’ is really his only trick but he knows what he’s supposed to do & learns routine very quickly. We talk to him like he’s people & he responds like he’s people.
We'd love him to go to a home with a few special perks; someone that is home 'most' of the day to reduce his time spent alone. He would do great in a home with a doggie door so he didn't have to be crated (of course if you’re home most of the day, he's fine spending small amounts of time in the crate). Someone looking for a laid back boxer that likes to play but enjoys snuggling even more.
Some of Apache's favorite things to do; going for short walks, laying on his people, dog siblings, and most of all the couch on top of blanket & pillows would love to lay on the bed with you at night but he will also stay on the floor on his own bed. He really enjoys car rides, although you have to pick him up to get in. Most of all he LOVES laying in the sun on nice days, would stay out there for hours if I'd let him. Playing with his toys, buddy glow ball is his ultimate favorite & rubbing his back all over the rugs & kicking his legs all over my leather & wood furniture while making moaning noises!
Some 'special' things about Apache:
-he likes to keep clean counters, nightstands, dressers, he's not a fan of clutter (only when left alone for too long)
-he doesn't like small spaces, being shut in bathrooms, waiting in the laundry room for me to open the next door
-does not like being left alone too long, he does much better now, but we worked very hard to get him to tolerate crate time. He broke several teeth proving his point.
Apache has a small level of Spondylosis. This website talks about the condition. Basically he has some bone spurs on his spine that makes it difficult for him to jump onto high things, like the bed, getting in cars. Most of the time he can easily jump on/off the couch but other times he needs a little help. He's not currently taking any medications nor are any needed at this time. He's not in pain, with daily exercise he’s become stronger & his back seems to bother him less & less. In the colder months he may need to take Rimadly as needed to help reduce any pain he may have. Right now this isn’t anything that really holds him back from being your typical boxer. From research it something that as he gets older may cause him discomfort.
